Process Control and System Automation

In many sectors of mechanical engineering complex systems with multiple inputs and outputs are to be automized. Programmable logic controllers and process control systems facilitate automatic control as well as process visualization and documentation in a very comfortable way, so that the designer is enabled to focus on the control development. In this course based on control engineering or comparable courses some principles and instrument engineering are explained.

In the “model factory for teaching and research” of the IRT the students have the chance to gain practical experience with modern automation technology within the scope of the laboratory exercise. Due to the proximity of the laboratory the lecture topics can be complemented by concrete examples anytime.

Information on L2P Course Rooms

Registration for the L2P course rooms is usually performed by the students themselves, starting from the lecture site in the RWTHonline system. If you have trouble registering or you need a late registration, please contact your respective advisor.

The course is offered during the summer semester and takes place in the seminar room and the model factory of the Institute of Automatic Control.

A registration via Campus Office is required to participate in the course. The number of participants is limited due to the limited space in the model factory of IRT. The CAMPUS system distributes the spaces according to priority in the week before the first lecture. If you are still enrolled in a Bachelor program and want to take part in the course ahead of a Master program, you unfortunately can not register in CAMPUS. Though, this is required for the fair distribution of the spaces. Unfortunately, experience has shown that there are regularly no spaces left after distribution. However, you are invited to send an e-mail to the contact person who will put you on our waitlist.

All lecture and exercise documents are available in L2P.

The examination is written Multiple Choice and takes place each semester, the next appointment is

Thursday, February 07, 2019

More information can be found on RWTHonline.

Place of the exam:

Conference room, Institute for Automantic Control, Campus Boulevard 30, 52074 Aachen

Please note that the appointment in CAMPUS is longer as the room has to be booked longer for preparation and clearance.

The successful participation in the exercise is a requirement for the participation in the examination.
